Reading an intriguing book, Four Thousand Weeks: Time and How to Use It by Oliver Burkeman that was mentioned to me by a client. It’s a curious take on the thriving and expansive industry that has grown up around goal optimisation and productivity and how we all are part of the endless list making and time blocking community.
As a coach, I am usually helping my clients reflect on their goals, so the take I got from this book was that it’s not enough for us to decide what is the most meaningful goal, but what are the goals we need to neglect – and to accept that we are neglecting these other goal. Only then will turning off notifications, productivity quadrants and task prioritisation have any impact on securing that precious uninterrupted space to achieve the most meaningful goal for us. A case of learning to say No. Thank you, Damian, for the nudge!
