Today, 8th March, is International Women’s Day. A global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. Whether it is deliberate or unconscious, bias makes it difficult for women to achieve the recognition they deserve, whether this is from their managers, peers, colleagues or society. This year is even more poignant as news feeds about the very survival of the women of Ukrainica emerge, as they try to protect their children and families, the most basis of human needs. These women are the heroes that we need to celebrate today.
By supporting International Women’s Day, and not only recognising that bias exists but move every day towards positively changing it. This is no longer about ’empowering’ and ‘celebrating’ women. It’s about hiring, promoting, paying, investing, electing, leading and giving women equality. This is no longer about support or encouraging rhetoric but actions. Our actions will change how others feel, how they think and how they act.
